THESE ARE OUR 27 STEPS TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY AND CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY IN 2024
At Shop&Roll we have continued moving forward during 2024 on the path to extending sustainability and corporate responsibility across all of our activity, as well as encouraging the sustainability of our customers and improving our environment and the community. In total we have carried out 27 ESG actions, endorsed by the renowned Ecovadis seal, to meet the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN 2030 Agenda.
The acronym ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance) covers all the factors that make a company sustainable. All the information will be gathered in our second annual Sustainability Report, currently being prepared. These are some of the most notable actions.
* Measurement of our carbon footprint. One of our main goals is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030 on Scope 1 (those directly caused by the company in its activity) and Scope 2 (those caused by the production of the energy purchased). Our results hold the Calculo seal, which the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge grants to organisations that record their carbon footprint, and the Compenso seal, which certifies a plan to reduce emissions and participation in an absorption project through partial emissions offsetting.
* Reducing environmental impact. The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions is part of the actions aimed at mitigating the impact on the environment and climate change. At Shop&Roll’s two sites we work on relevant aspects such as energy efficiency, waste reduction and recycling and responsible water use.
* Zero Waste circular economy project. With this pilot project we have made the most of the replacement of price-rail profiles in Leroy Merlin España stores with electronic label holders to give a second life to more than 800 kilos of PVC, used to manufacture 2,400 keyrings for the volunteers taking part in Leroy Merlin’s Hazlo Verde educational initiative and two benches for the Shop&Roll sites. In addition to raising awareness, this project has resulted in an estimated 85-90% saving in greenhouse gas emissions in the production of material.

* Restoration of the natural environment. Also with Leroy Merlin and SEO BirdLife, we held a tree-planting day to restore the natural area of the Jarama river in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, within the South-East Regional Park, as part of the Clean Rivers, Save Oceans Project.

* Donations to environmental projects. We have made financial contributions to the work of AISECO in the restoration of habitats around the Gallocanta lagoon; to the PURE project of Ayuda en Acción, which installs solar cookers in Uganda; and to the organisation Plastic Change, linked to our Oceanis line of shopping baskets and trolleys since its launch in 2020, to fight against the “ghost nets” that seriously affect the oceans.
* Solidarity with those affected by the DANA. In response to the severe floods in Valencia, we set up a collection point for donations of basic products at our workplaces, which were delivered in Alfafar to the NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK) of chef José Andrés, thanks to the collaboration of the transport company Jabex.

* Stress Management Workshops. To promote occupational health and support within our team, we ran practical workshops in collaboration with the AFDA association in Zaragoza and ASAMEC in Madrid, to learn new ways of taking care of the mind and to share valuable moments among colleagues.

* Inclusion of functional diversity. In collaboration with the ASPADIR association (Association of Parents and Friends of People with Disabilities in Rivas) we organised a Christmas decoration workshop, repeating an initiative that was already a great experience last year. In addition, in 2024 we took part in their Diversity race and made a donation of materials for their activities.

* Collaboration in health projects. To help extend the right to health around the world, we have collaborated with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), combining financial support with raising awareness of the importance of early diagnosis; we have taken part in the Vaccination Alliance (GAVI) project with La Caixa’s Social Welfare Programme, focused on access to childhood vaccines in developing countries; and we have collaborated in the lottery sale for the Red Cross Gold Draw.
* Internal communication actions. Inside the company we have carried out various activities linked to the celebration of International Days related to the 2030 Agenda goals. We have joined the celebrations of the Day of the Oceans, of Women, of Workers, of Mental Health, of Forests, of the Earth, of Recycling and of the Environment.
We continue to progress to be every day a more efficient and responsible company, and our commitment is to demonstrate it with an integrated approach, measurable goals and precise assessments.
