SHOP AND ROLL, ASEARCO AWARD FOR THE MOST SUSTAINABLE SME
ASEARCO, the business association for municipalities in the south-east of Madrid, has distinguished our work with the award for the Most Sustainable SME in the first edition of its Business Awards. A recognition that gives us particular satisfaction because it acknowledges “the role of companies in defending the values that lead to a fairer and more sustainable world.”
The awards ceremony brought together 200 guests to recognise and share the work of “the professionals who lead economic development and innovation“. The jury was made up of experts from different fields, with representatives from the Madrid Confederation of Employers and the Madrid Chamber of Commerce.
This ASEARCO Most Sustainable SME award is thus a new endorsement of the success of the cross-cutting sustainability strategy we launched at Shop&Roll in 2021, based on four pillars: circularity, supply, eco-design and integration. It is also an incentive to keep moving forward in applying the ESG criteria (Environmental, Social and Governance) and to progress in extending sustainability and corporate responsibility to all of our activity, helping to improve the environment and the community and increasing our transparency.
These are some of the highlighted milestones in Shop&Roll’s bid for this award:
- The innovative Oceanis range of shopping baskets and trolleys, made with 25% discarded fishing nets and ropes, which end up as marine waste.
- The life cycle analysis of various products to incorporate criteria that allow us to reduce their environmental impact.
- The calculation of the corporate carbon footprint and the measures to reduce it (lighting replacement and insulation to improve energy efficiency, policies on the use of hybrid vehicles or energy supply with a 100% renewable guarantee of origin).
- The offsetting of the carbon footprint emitted through absorption projects recognised by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition (5% in 2021; 10% in 2022 and 15% in 2023).
- The development of a green purchasing policy that assesses the environmental criteria of the products it buys as well as the sustainable performance of its suppliers.
- The waste management, seeking to apply circular economy practices and to promote circular alliances with customers. An example is the recent initiative with Leroy Merlin and the Zero Waste project, in which we have collaborated on the collection of replaced shop fittings in stores in the Valencian Community and turned them into benches for our facilities and educational keyrings.
- The proof of this performance through the sustainability report or certifications such as ISO 14001 in environmental management or the Ecovadis seals.
- Environmental and social actions such as those carried out with the ASPADIR association (Association of Parents and Friends of People with Disabilities in Rivas) and SEO Birdlife for the reforestation of the South-East Regional Park.
- Staff awareness and the promotion of equality in a fair working environment, through practices and social benefits that support work-life balance and a good working climate.
